MBE
There are two old MBE systems in the lab I worked in Fudan University, which were washed to remove the remaining material. Many parts are broken due to the washing so we did a lot of work in renovating the MBE systems.

First we had to know how the electrical control system work. All the wires were sorted and reconnected.

Then we repaired the source panel as none of the pulleys and shutters was functioning well.

The mechanical part and heater of the manipulator were also broken. It was very difficult to rotate the manipulator and the claw could not hold the sample holder well. The resistance of the heater was very high, which indicated bad connection.

The transfer arm and the elevator were the most time-consuming part. The elevator was not perpendicular, and this resulted in that it could not hold the cassette nor transfer it into the MBE. We took them apart and adjusted the pulleys to make it perpendicular.
